MoodClinics Brings Mental Health Awareness to 2025 Maricopa County Fair

Phoenix, AZ — April 2025 — Fairgoers at this year’s Maricopa County Fair found more than rides and games — they also found a chance to talk about mental health. MoodClinics, an Arizona-based telepsychiatry provider, spent two weeks at the fair promoting “mental health hygiene” and encouraging early intervention. Staff spoke with over 100 attendees and local health providers, distributed 5,000+ educational flyers, and gave away stress-relief balls, notebooks, and hand fans. The outreach coincided with National Take-Back Day, offering safe disposal guides and naloxone information to address the opioid crisis. Live heart-rate demos illustrated the body’s stress response, and short “pulse-check” chats connected visitors to resources.

“Meeting people where they are — even at the fair — helps reduce stigma and build trust,” said a MoodClinics spokesperson.

Plans for next year include on-site screenings, mindfulness workshops, and youth art-therapy activities. By shifting from reaction to prevention, MoodClinics aims to make mental health care accessible, practical, and stigma-free.

MoodClinics’ Intervention Linked to 21% Drop in La Paz County Suicide Rates

MoodClinics’ efforts in La Paz County have been associated with a notable decrease in suicide rates over the past five years. In 2017, the county recorded 13 suicides, equating to a rate of 60.2 per 100,000 residents. By 2020, this number had declined to six suicides, a 53.85% reduction from 2017. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw a slight increase in 2021, the overall trend indicates a 20.93% decrease in suicide rates since MoodClinics began its interventions.

It’s important to note that La Paz County’s suicide rate, while improved, remains higher than state and national averages. The county’s current rate is 47.6 per 100,000, compared to the national average of 14 per 100,000 and the Arizona state average of 32.1 per 100,000. Additionally, La Paz has the lowest suicide attempt rate in Arizona, at 167 per 100,000, suggesting the use of more lethal methods.
